Kalamandalam Sathyabhama Jr.

Kalamandalam Sathyabhama Jr. is a very prominent dancer amongst the most renowned classical dancers of India. She had completed her dance based studies from the Kerala Kalamandalam, the most reputed institution of dance in the world. Kalamandalam Sathyabhama Jr. has done justice to her talent and career by teaching various art forms like Mohiniyattam, Kathakalli, Kuchupuddi and has more than 5000 students in and out of the country.

She has conducted welfare programmes, in association with the Kerala State Government, for the empowerment of various branches of dance and is the director of the dance institution, KALAMANDALAM SATHYABHAMA DANCE ACADEMY. With her excellence in teaching she has framed her students so well that they have come up with flying colours in school kalotsavam and university youth festivals. She has done many experiments in her own ways in the field of classical dance.

Smt Sathyabhama has conducted dance festivals in almost all parts of Kerala and has also performed in various prominent temples such as Sri Mookambika, Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, Guruvayoor and Chottanikara. She has proved her talent by her performances in different cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Banglore and Chennai. She has fought hard against corruption in various competition events and to keep up morality in the fields of dance.

Dance Education.

Srimati. Sathyabhama graduated from one of the most prominent and well known Kerala Kalamandalam, dance institute. She began her dance education at the Kalamandalam in 1974 at the age of 13. Before joining Kalamandalam she studied under the guidance of Kalamandalam Kshemavathi at the age of 12. Kalamandalam Sathyabhama completed her dance education in 4 years at Kalamandalam.

Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam

In her years at Kalamandalam, she learnt under the guidance of various eminent teachers. Padmashree Kalamandalam Sathyabhama and Kalamandalm Padhmini were the ones who guided her in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam. She received her diploma with 1st ranks in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam from kalamandalam.

Kuchipudi

Smt. Sathyabhama was trained in Kuchipudi by Padhmashree Dr. Vembatti Chinna Sathyam. Through his guidance, Srimati Sathyabhama gained lot of knowledge in this art form.

Kathakali

Kathakali is the most renowned art forms of Kerala. Smt Sathyabhama got the opportunity to learn Kathakali under the guidance of famous Kathakali Acharya Vembayam Appukuttan.

Organizational Excellence

Srimati Sathyabhama has made a lot of contributions as an effective organizer to keep up the morality of various art forms. She has had a successful 30 years of organizational career. She has also given a lot of importance to various social problems in the society. Smt Sathyabhama has helped the upbringing of talents by financially helping people who cannot afford a future in dance.

Srimati Sathyabhama has legally fought against the various corruptions that happen in school kalotsavam. She has conducted one of the most celebrated dance festivals titled “SINDHURAM DANCE FEST” at Putharikandam Maithanam. She has incorporated an organization named NANMA (National Association of Malayalam Artists) associating various dancers in and out of kerala. Some of the ventures by Srimati Sathyabhama are:

Chief Co-ordinator of the Dance Festival conducted by AdoorBhasi Cultural Forum in the year 2015.
She has been conducting the very prestigious Sindhooram dance fest since 1995.
Served as the organizer of NANMA (National Association of Malayalam Artist)s.
Smt Sathyabhama was the chairperson of the CHILANGA dance fest organized by the Kerala- state government.
General Secretary of AKDTO (All Kerala Dance Teachers Association) Thiruvananthapuram District committee.
Srimati Sathyabhama is the Palayam division treasurer of AIDWA ( All India Democratic Women’s Association)
She was the Chief co-ordinator of dance events of the yearly Onam celebration programmes organized by the Kerala- state government.

Achievements

Srimati Sathyabhama, graduated from the Kalamandalam, has won lot of awards and honours. Kalamandalam Sathyabhama Jr.; who has devoted her life to dance has gained much recognition in Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathakali. She has also transformed her talent to her students. So that they received the same recognitions.

Important awards and honours received by Smt Sathyabhama are listed below:

Gained 1st ranks in Bharathanattyam and Mohiniyattam from Kerala Kalamandalam in 1977.
Special honour from National Association of Malayalam Artists for her contribution to dance in 2013.
“Thulasibhavanam Award”, given by the Nedumangadu KrishnanNair Trust for her contribution in Bharathanattyam and Mohiniyattam, in 2008.
Received the “Kalasubhagam Award” from the Ambedkar Cultural Trust, in 2001.
In 2008, she received the “Arjuna Dance Award” (Arjnua Nritha Puraskaram) from the ARJUNA SCHOOL OF DANCE.
Her students have received various Dance Scholarships, from Central and State governments.
